About the Arizona Woodturners Association 2008

We are dedicated to the education, preservation and inspiration of the art of woodturning. AWA is proud to be a chapter of the  American Association of Woodturners.

We are excited about the recent revival in the interest in woodturning. Artists who have been woodturning for some time have been passing on this art to people of all ages and genders. Tool manufactures and turners have been coming out with a plethora of new tool designs and chucks to make turning more available to anyone. People's imaginations have shown the world how turning is a true and pure form of art.

Learn to turn: If you ever thought about trying woodturning, we encourage you to contact a local turners association and locate their next meeting. It is generally agreed this is the best way to start this new fascination. It is also highly recommended to join the American Association of Woodturners.  Be warned, wood turning it is very addicting.

Whether you want to learn woodturning for relaxation or want to make a gallery piece, start with your local woodturning organization and sign up. The information you can gather there is second to none. Let the chips fly!

Important Note: Please take the time to browse our web site, and in it you will find pictures of turnings,  information on where and when we meet, and links to web sites of turners and woodturning  tool  manufactures. You are  always welcome to contact us with any questions you may have and/or send us information that you think may be of interest to the members of our organization.

Our association meets the third Saturday of each month at the Pyle Center in Tempe. The meetings are generally from 12:00pm to 4:00pm unless otherwise noted on our Meetings page. The address for the Pyle Center is  655 East Southern Avenue Tempe, Arizona  85282. Our meetings start off with an overview and update from the President and the Vice President and then on to the woodturning demo. We have been very fortunate to have many well-recognized turners doing demonstrations for us and we have some members who are known throughout the world as must-see demonstrators.
